Pamela Underwood has been a professional visual and performance artist for the past 25 years, and an Expressive Arts Therapist since 2003. Upon realizing the bulk of her art work was focused on the healing aspect of the creative process, Underwood spent three years at the Expressive Arts Institute of San Diego and three summers at the European Graduate School in Saas Fee, Switzerland, for her Master’s Degree in Expressive Arts Therapy.
In 1994, Underwood began leading "Artist's Way Groups" based on Julia Cameron's book, The Artist’s Way. Over the years she has developed a style of her own, facilitating participants in exploring, taking risks and experiencing freedom of expression through various artistic modalities, while still utilizing the strength and structure of the book.
Underwood recently developed a new 12-week course entitled, Discovering Your Authentic Visual Vocabulary™. This course was inspired by her signature retreat, Bodywriting™ as well as her 10 years of experience facilitating groups. In this course participants discover color, music, movement and imagery with which they have a core connection. They recognize and embrace the imagery at work in their lives, gaining the tools to enter into a long time relationship that is helpful and satisfying.
Pamela is a founding member of the Minstrels of Story Playback theater troop. Minstrels of Story takes Playback performances (founded by Johnathan Fox) to organizations in which there is a closed group of individuals focused on the same goal or challenge. For example the theater group has performed for The San Diego Brain Injury Foundation’s monthly meetings, Vietnam Veteran’s Residential Facility (VVSD) and Providence House, a residential facility for women who have been released from prison and are reuniting with family. |
