Lately I am so blown away by Meinrad Craighead in her CD, “Praying with Images” . When Nancy Lemke first introduced her work to me, I had to get her retrospective book right away. It is big and heavy and a beautiful. Now, a couple of years later I go to Spirit Mountain Retreat in Idyllwild (what a great place to be quiet, write, make art…)and find that Esther- executive director- knows Meinrad. They are/were both nuns.
Esther invited a couple of us at the retreat to view this video with her. When it was finished I told Esther that I needed to watch it at least 10 more times. Meinrad now lives in New Mexico, a place I long to live. She did work based on the Bosque Fire in Albequerque- which I identify with first hand… and I have a dog named Bosque!
Well, I bought it and have watched it at least 10 more times.. It touches something deep in my core. I’m sitting with it, painting with her and steeping in her; Meinrad Craighead.
