English Garden and Olive Groves at Racalia

English Garden and Olive Groves at Racalia

Villa Racalia is adorned with hand painted tiles, hand painted, curved ceilings.  Look at the detail in the tile and on this ceiling!  Racalia also features one of the oldest, top ten English Gardens and natural woodlands in Italy.  It’s olive groves produce delicious Racalia Olive Oil. Problem is that they don’t have a distributor in the states.  So, my […]

Owls at the Autumn Labyrinth Walk

Owls at the Autumn Labyrinth Walk

Yesterday I was setting up the labyrinth for our Autumn Labyrinth Walk.  I wondered if it would even be dark enough to turn the lights on. By 6:30pm the hot October sun had gone down.  We didn’t even need a hat for shade. The twinkle lights were on, a soft breeze brought cool air and then… the owls started hooting.  Not just one, when Tess came down the […]

Shhhh….Orange flowers at Villa Racalia in Sicily

Shhhh….Orange flowers at Villa Racalia in Sicily

On our trip to Italy I took time to journal most mornings and paint the vibrant Haemanthus flowers over and over again, while chasing around the busy bees using blind contour drawing!  Makes me laugh! I also smuggled one of these bulbs into the states and hope to have it bloom next year (Shhhh!)

Racalia Sicily

Racalia Sicily

We are returning from such a fabulous trip where we visited our extended family in London.  They have an old family villa, Racalia, near Marsala Sicily where we went for 5 days and then back to London and then home.  Villa Racalia was built in the mid 1700’s.  Can you imagine?!! It is hard for me to wrap my brain around […]

Late Summer Walk

Late Summer Walk

I  headed out into the cloud with my head low to sheild my face from the mist. What a wonderful experience after a sweltering month of August!  Cloud cover holds natures’ sounds close to the earth, a rabbit stayed near enough and long enough for me to make a blind contour drawing. I […]

We Met Artist Lauren Carrera

We Met Artist Lauren Carrera

Last evening we had a great Atist’s Way Group  feild trip to The Carrera Expedition at Liberty Station.  The artist Lauren Carrera and her husband were actually there tending the show.  This was very unusual and special!  It was wonderful to meet the woman behind this brilliant show.  I learned that she mentors other artist’s there […]
