INVEST IN YOUR ONE CREATIVE, WILD AND PRECIOUS LIFE!

….Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? Excerpt from “Summer” by Mary Oliver

DESCRIPTION:

Gain insight and inspiration through visual journaling!

Together we will weave a net of safety to allow one another to delve into the necessary chaos of art making as we explore its valuable resource as our helper and companion.

We support one another in developing an art habit. Use the practice of daily sojourns into our visual journaling world so that you can:

Embrace your sensing body as your first creative partner.
Learn to take risks on the page and then in life.
Let go of control and let the ‘life’ of your journal self-organize. It’s not all about you!
Practice finding ease in the unknown.
Engage images held in your body from your past, present and even future.
These images, both nurturing and disturbing, affect decisions we make every day.
Deepen your relationship to images or transform them in your journal.
Learn to embrace your journal and the images it holds as companions.
Ride the wave of your own breath, invite the ego to step aside and trust the creative process.
Come, discover your unique visual vocabulary; let your journal be the container to “Call In” the personal images that create your unique “Image Councilⓒ.”

Thoughts on Journal Tending

“Our bodies are always changing , parts die, new ones are born.  I think a journal page…is not so different.  If I put paint on a page one day, then add a little here and there, spontaneously layering, it forces the previous idea to recycle into a new one.

Each page in the journal is not necessarily about a particular (personal) story, but every page has a certain autobiographical element.

Ultimately it is nice to find a way to combine the various contrasting elements and find harmony in the final work.  Beauty is nothing more than a combination of imperfections which bring out the best in the other.”

Sheila Cockrell- Image Quest Sojourner

Who should join?

  • Are you willing to make art that isn’t always pretty?
  • Are you willing to encounter your shadow side with respect and curiosity?
  • Are you willing to trust in the creative process?
  • Are you willing to glue, sand, mark, paint for at least 10-15 minutes a day & longer when you can?
  • Do you have the courage to dwell in the necessary chaos of art making?
  • Do you desire a new way of mindfully engaging your life?

Usually we are a group of women but men are very welcome!

This process isn’t for everyone. It involves showing up with curiosity, truth telling, acceptance and sincerity.

We will create art that will be important, if not always pretty – important because art making reaches the voice of our soul which longs to be heard.

As a community who makes art, we will naturally gain courage by association and cross pollinate, inspiring one another to reach new heights.

The "BONES" of the 6 month IQS

Our group will meet approximately two weeks on and two weeks off. Each session is 3 hours with ongoing journal tending at home for 2 weeks.

During our 12, 3-hour sessions we explore the images that affect our daily lives. We carry these images from our ancestors, our childhood, the present and even the future. As a group we begin to know ourselves and one another through our developing journal pages as they move from primal marks and color washes, into the necessary chaos or art making.

Over our 6 months together we watch in awe, as our pages seemingly “self organize” into full blown expressions!

We practice exciting mixed media visual art journaling techniques.
We practice non-judgement,
We practice finding ease in the unknown
We practice letting go.
We learn methods to talk about our own art and the art of others in a safe, helpful way.

Drumming, poetry, sand tray and movement serve as helpers to move our pages forward, offering guidance and new information.

We gain courage by association while building an art-based community.
Our daily journal tending, group work, and insight gained from art techniques, informs how we navigate our day to day lives with resilience and insight.

All art supplies will be provided during sessions. Participants will stock their personal studios with supplies to work each day.

Examples of techniques are: Intuitive Collage©, Acetone Transfers, Gel Medium Transfers, Tape Transfers, carving a personal image print block, creating personal ImageCouncil©Cards, acrylic painting, drawing, sand tray work, stencils, mono-printing, etc!

See the video above for examples of these techniques.

Weekly Inspirations: Once a week participants receive “tips and inspirations” to fuel daily visual journaling and keep the creative fire burning all through the month!

Image Council Cards:  Identify the most important images in your journal. Then create your own deck of cards which hold your personal “Image Council”.

Be the scribe for your journal’s own story.

As our images from our past, present and future begin to layer on top of one another, they naturally inform one another; changing how we perceive these images, and therefore may naturally change how we tell our own story.

(Optional) Private Image Quest Sojourn Sessions with Pamela at private session rates: There is always the added benefit of investing in private sessions (purchased in 3 session packages) with Pamela. Many Image Quest Sojourners have BLOSSOMED from focusing on what is happening during their Image Quest Sojourns and finding the ‘just right’ way to express it in their visual journal.

“For me, Image Quest is a journey inward in the presence of a strong group of co-creators. We witness each others’ experiences of experimenting with paper and paint and words …our creations become more and more reflective of who we are as human beings and as artists until we really come to our own voice with our images. My process led to an unexpected appreciation of my roots in the Midwest and the extended family members who have contributed to who I am today. My sojourn with Pamela created a deep resting place within myself where I can call on inner resources to better meet the challenges that life presents. " - Image Quest

“I first came to appreciate the value of reflective writing during grad school when I used it as a learning tool in a study skills class I created for my thesis project. While I keep thinking journals to organize my thoughts, they have been filled primarily with practical words and thinking images. Now my thinking journals are alive with color, filled with meaningful words and imagery, and have become indispensable learning tools. Pamela taught me how to be a more thoughtful observer and a smarter thinker.” - Image Quest Sojourn
