Bodywriting ® Retreats for Women

Bodywriting Retreats for Women since 1994

COME HOME to your BODY and FEED YOUR SOUL!

Since the beginning of Bodywriting® in 1994, women have been reclaiming who they are NOW through poetry, visual art, sound and movement. Through these  portals of art “Bodywriters” revisit, review and re-write the stories held in their bodies on a deeply cellular level.

Throughout these retreats, you can realize that you are not alone in the creative process. We drop masks and pretense. You can print your nude body and become co-creator with the image that emerges.  Through movement, writing, sound and visual art techniques, you can ask the life-size image who has arrived, “What is your name?  Are you human, animal, bird, otherworldly or earth being?  What do you bring?  What do you need from me next?” You can then follow the image as a companion and guide.

You are the pioneer navigating your inner landscape

BODYWRITING® RETREATS FOR WOMEN

Bodywriting® Retreats for Women was born in 1994 during an exciting summer collaboration between artist Pamela Underwood and writer Judy Reeves. Since its inception, Pamela has continued to shapeBodywriting® Retreats into the exhilarating, unconventional, pioneering experience that it is today! Bodywriting® Retreats have served hundreds of women, including many who did not consider themselves “artists.”  The women who have engaged in the retreats developed the insight and capacity to stretch their boundaries, take personal risks, shake life up, explore new possibilities and mark a passage by becoming immersed in the basic human resource of art-making.
“We are One”
Immersed in creative living in community with women for five days, exploring journaling, poetry, drumming, acrylics, Intuitive Collage™, pastels and guided movement meditation, participants thrive in this supportive community while gaining a sense of their own deep nature, passion and direction in life.
-Sharen Catterton

Through sharing meals, learning to give safe feedback and witnessing each other’s experience, a strong bond is formed. The safety of the retreat experience is deepened while Bodywriters help prepare meals together and tend to the working studio.

Connection with the surrounding sacred land and feminine spirit moving through nature provides a foundation for our work that is primal. Bodywriting® calls attention to the importance of taking time out of our everyday lives to practice mindful connection in the present moment.

During Bodywriting®, Pamela’s carefully designed program is followed in order to safely explore the self, take risks and feel a renewed sense of possibility in one’s life. This structure allows for each art experience to build  upon one another throughout the retreat. Eventually a rich thread of authentic imagery forms that not only translates into a work of art, but also creates a new lens through which to see the world.

Bodywriting ® assists us in returning to our lives and relationships firmly grounded in our body and senses. It  gifts us with the solid resource of renewed connection to feminine wisdom, imagination and play in our daily life.

Come, discover a whole new world… YOUR WORLD!

Note:  No art background necessary.

Testimonials

Tamara Mathews, psychotherapist

“Bodywriting is clearly cellular…no instruction or book or therapy could of freed me like this. Feels like the brain and the cells have transformed completely using the body as a tool…by going through the body it feels like it tricks the brain and then it all lets go…the cells feel happy and different and free.

There is a quality of trust and faith that takes place on the retreat revealing our true self expression not only as women but as spirit in a body…This can only happen in a safe and soothing environment which Pamela provides." - Bodywriting

…Pamela , just last night I was staring at my Bodywriting art, ruminating about how far I’ve come in three years (since Bodywriting) and how it would be great to come full circle again now that I have healed so much. It was a very empowering thought and just another testament to the incredible power of your concept and process.

So much of the sum total of me shifted there (at Bodywriting). Like the big clamshell the woman comes out of, or the head of Zeus, or Spiderwoman’s lair… If you saw the “March of the Penguins,” you’ll know what I mean when I say I will always have a deep hard-wired notion to spend time (at Pamela Underwood Studios).

Pamela Underwood is a creative genius. She designed and built her home sanctuary in harmony with the land, to foster creativity. She is the architect of Bodywriting Retreat. With Sage wisdom, she leads her circle of women into finding their plumb~line. During my time at Bodywriting Retreat I found my plumb~line many times. While walking the labyrinth, in the pool, brushing paint to canvas and seeing the subtle blend of color, are just a few of the moments when I felt the powerfully soft sensation of being in true alignment; My plumb~line. In this five day retreat I had so many deep belly laughs. As my painting emerged, I was giggly. Pamela's poetry reading softened me to sweet sensitive tears, that carried into lighter lighter brush strokes and finer details in my painting. All of my needs were met during this retreat. Including, much needed and wanted, technical composition techniques, to create depth and dimension in my painting. I am filled with gratitude, for the care and craft that Pamela put into creating this profound experience. (Namastay).

When I decided to give Bodywriting a try, I was an emotional and physical wreck. My marriage of 22 years was dissolving. I was really surprised how many of my feelings surfaced (the first) night (during the Intuitive Collage). The experience of slathering paint on my body and imprinting not only gave me a spiritual sense of freeing myself, it was fun! I felt a real connection with the other women. I left there feeling stronger, more sure of myself, more creative. Thank you, Pamela, for your loving guidance and direction.
