I wrote a letterto Meinrad Craighead  (yes, on paper with a stamped envelop!) expressing how fully  her work has affected my life, that I am obsessing over her DVD, Praying with Images,  have watched it at least 10 times and shared it with many women. Meinrad Craighead: Praying with Images

I got a lovely response to my letter the other day.  She was very moved. It expressed that it is always a great joy for her to hear how important her work is in the lives of so many women.

I often feel that I need to be still and steep in the message that Meinrad has for me personally, for just like any work of art, it brings something unique to each person who takes time to engage.

It opened my mind.  I recommend it to everyone-especially those who desire a mindful connection with  images they live with which is a big part of my work.

I’ve bought a second copy so that I have one to pass around and still have one to watch/listen to when the feeling of connection arises.

Such wise words.  Thank you so much Meinrad Craighead.  You are the pantron saint of artists in my world.

Praying with Images

A new documentary about artist and teacher, Meinrad Craighead: Praying with Images tells the story of Craighead’s artistic and spiritual pilgrimage which began in her native Arkansas, where her greatest influences were the Catholic Church, the natural environment, and her grandmother who encouraged her to draw and paint.

The documentary includes nearly 100 of Craighead’s paintings, shown in beautiful detail. Viewers will see images that have flowed from her dreams and visions of the Divine Feminine over the last 50 years, experience her moving images and stories of the devastating 2003 bosque fire, and travel with her on a recent pilgrimage to visit her beloved Black Madonna of Montserrat in Spain.

“If I didn’t paint,” Craighead says, “I wouldn’t know where I am in the world.” Her truly original art spans time and distance and tradition to combine imagery from Catholicism, Native American shamanism, and ancient mythology. Add to the mix her own dreams and mystic visions and the result is a unique synthesis of energy, color, and connectedness.
